All inflatable watercraft are manufactured from layered materials offering high strength, flexibility, abrasion resistance, and UV protection. However, you must still be cautious of sharp objects both in the river and on land that could puncture the boat. After removing the boat from the water, it is necessary to inflate it (by rotating the valve center), since heat increases the pressure in the tubes and they could burst. In hot, sunny weather, do not forget to especially inflate the side tubes and supports! The floor usually has a safety overpressure valve. Before continuing your trip, reinflate the boat. Be sure that no dirt enters the valves – sand can prevent the valve membrane from sealing properly, causing leakage. For longer trips, remember to rent a pump (one pump is enough for several boats). (On our rivers, we both rent and select boats in the inflated state.)

The tubes should be inflated so that they cannot be compressed. The air pressure in the tubes has a decisive impact on the boat’s handling, increasing stability, speed, and maneuverability. When using an inflatable canoe on a heavy river, it is necessary to add thigh straps, and in a raft, hook your feet under the footrests for a secure seat. (On rafts, the proper seating is on the side tubes.) For a raft full of beginners or even experienced paddlers, two seasoned boaters can safely operate it on a light river.

All inflatable boats have a short rope at the bow for tying to the shore. Every additional rope should be neatly coiled and secured inside the boat to prevent entanglement of people, children, or dogs, which could be dangerous. Luggage should be waterproof; in canoes, 2 dry bags fit, in rafts depending on occupancy 2–6, and any extra items should be packed in boat bags. Luggage does not need to be tied down on our rivers – it won’t float far, and in a crisis a swinging dry bag on a rope could be dangerous.

People rent inflatable boats for leisure rivers due to the greater sense of safety and stability. It’s true that an inflated boat won’t sink even if capsized and is hard to flip over. However, it is slow. On rocky rivers and sections with low water levels, do not use a raft – you may get caught between the rocks, not enjoy the ride, and risk damaging the raft. On hot summer days, do not underestimate the need for a hat, water shoes, sun protection for your thighs, and for children, don’t forget life jackets. For heavy water, of course, complete boating equipment is required, as one can easily fall out of a raft in wild water.

A frequent question is whether it is possible to bring a dog on an inflatable boat. It is possible, but it is best to check the dog’s claws before the trip.

When renting inflatable boats, we definitely recommend ordering insurance in case the equipment is damaged.
